MAMA BEARCAT RECEIVES HONOR May 2007 - Laura Corn has spent the past 34 years operating the Boyd Mini Golf Park across from HHS. When she returns this summer, the park will have a new look - it will bear her name. The park was dedicated and officially renamed the "Laura E. Corn Mini Golf Park" by the City, along with declaring May 12, 2007 as Laura E. Corn Day. Corn, 79, is a former preschool teacher, a community volunteer, and Mama Bearcat to hundreds of HHS students. Mrs. Corn was inducted into the HHS Hall of Fame in 2005. The Laura E. Corn Outstanding Senior Female Athlete Award was established by HHS in her honor, the first athletic award for girls at the school. Gail Rhodes, one of her daughters, said the dedication was a "wonderful expression of trust, faith and the caring people of the city throughout the years".
