ALUMNI BAGWELL AND SIMS HONORED

MAY 2008 - Two men near and dear to the Hendersonville community, and HHS alumni, were honored at the 38th annual Henderson County Kiwanis All-Star luncheon.  Paul Bagwell, Class of 1961, received the Lou Ann Morgan Leadership Award.  B. Sims, Class of 1940, was awarded the 1st Ricky Sparks Spirit Award.  Bagwell, who was a PE teacher/boys basketball coach at West Henderson High School from 1968 to 1998, said he patterned his coaching style after his good friend, the late Jim Pardue.  "Coach Bags" led his team to the regional title in 1975 and had numerous games against former Owen coach and now UNC coach Roy Williams.  Sims is well known for his tireless support of the Bearcats since the 30's. The Sparks Spirit award was created in honor of the late Ricky Sparks, who was also an avid Bearcat supporter.
