SAM WILLIAMS ('37) RECEIVES AWARD May 2007 - Sam Williams, Class of 1937, received the Clifton Shipman Award from the Hendersonville Merchants and Business Association. The Clifton Shipman Award, named after the first recipient in 2002, is given to a business person who has demonstrated the qualities and accomplishments that make him or her a valuable asset to the business community. Sam was honored for his numerous achievements in business as well as his active community involvement. When Sam returned from WWII, he began to work in the scrap iron business his father had started in 1928. Louis Williams and Sons Hardware grew into a staple in the Hendersonville community, with Sam's son Danny (Class of '76) taking over when Sam retired in 1989. Sam's numerous community service includes the VFW, American Legion, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Merchants Association. Sam was named to the HHS Hall of Fame in 2001.
