Available! Book on HHS Old Gym & Crafted items from Old Gym floor

To make way for the new school, the Old Gym had to be torn down. The much-loved stone building was an important part of HHS and Henderson County for 83 years, and the location of many memorable events for all in the school and community. To preserve a piece of that history, the Alumni Association was able to salvage some of the Old Gym flooring before the tear down, and we are very excited to offer some unique crafted items made with the help of local woodworkers and a few alumni volunteers. Find the items HERE on our Products page. You can pick them up locally or have your items shipped!

Interested in learning more about the history of the Old Gym? We also have a brand-new book titled Hendersonville High School Gymnasium, 1937 - 2020 authored by our very own HHS alumni Patrick W. Gallagher, Jr ! In his book, Mr. Gallagher chronicles the Old Gym ( also known as the City Gym) from its conception and construction through its storied life as a community center and a host to all varieties of sporting events. The book includes historical pictures and scans of original documents and articles sourced from local, state and federal archives. For more information about the book, including the author's overview, visit our Products page HERE.

All proceeds from these items will go directly to the Heritage Scholarship Fund that benefits graduating HHS Seniors moving on to higher education. The HHS Alumni Association has a goal each year to fund a scholarship for every deserving HHS graduate as they move on to higher education. And I think you’ll agree that 2020-21 has been an especially difficult year for all of our HHS students, and especially our Seniors. Please consider helping us towards our goal, and at the same time get your own unique piece of HHS history!
